This is her story, “I had to leave for Jos in 1983, since my father could no longer sponsor my education to secondary school because he had no money. While I was with my cousin, I enrolled in a tailoring shop to learn dress making. I completed it within a year and six months.

Honorable Udom Gabriel Emmanuel was born in Awa Iman, a City in Onna LGA of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He attended his primary education around the same community in his early years. At completion, he went to Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Akpan Ishiet, Onna LGA of Akwa Ibom State, from where he obtained his West African Examination Council’s Certificate (WAEC). South Africa Refuses Nigeria Explanation on Seized Flght And Cash

The news reaching us is that, South Africa Investigators have dismissed Nigerian government’s explanations of the purpose of the $9.3 million cash seized from two Nigerians and an Israeli as “flawed and riddled with discrepancies”. The suspects told South African authorities that the money was meant for the procurement of arms for Nigerian intelligence agencies. “… Although various explanations about the money were given to the investigating officer, these explanations were flawed and riddled with discrepancies,” the South African prosecution agency said in a statement sent to this newspaper. The jet used to ferry the money is owned by Ayo Oritsejafor, who heads the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN. Mr. Oritsejafor, a cleric, said he is not aware of the arms deal. He said although he owns the aircraft, it was managed by another company, Eagle Air Company, which in turn, leased the jet to a third party, Green Coast Produce Limited.

Kashamu Loses Bid to Stop Drug Trial In US Court

A United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit sitting in Illinois has declared a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) chieftain, Buruji Kashamu, a fugitive wanted in America for trial over allegations of importing drug to the country. Delivering judgment in an application by Kashamu for a writ of mandamus, Justice Charles R. Norgle refused to quash an indictment issued against the PDP chieftain.


The court held that the indictment against him had no expiration date. The court held: “Should he ever come to the United States, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, he could be put on trial in the Federal District Court in Chicago, since the indictment has no expiration date.

 “An original indictment remains pending until it is dismissed or until double jeopardy or due process would forbid prosecution under it.” Kashamu, a dual citizen of Nigeria and Benin, was charged in an indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Chicago, along with 13 other persons, with conspiracy to import heroin into the United States and distribute it, in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 963.

Combat For Power - Atiku Opposes Automatic Ticket For Buhari

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the All Progressives Congress as presently constituted, cannot do without holding an elective party primary to choose its flag bearer for the 2015 presidential election.

Atiku said this in an interview with journalists, in Abuja, on Monday. He was reacting to the clamour by the Gen. Muhammadu Buhari campaign team for an automatic ticket for the retired general.

In a veiled reference to agitations by Buhari’s supporters for an automatic ticket, Atiku said such agitations were borne out of a fear of an elective contest.

According to him, such a campaign can also be a carryover of the political background of those seeking for such concessions which is alien to the APC as it is today.

He said, “There is nothing like automatic ticket and those people who are asking for automatic ticket might have been coming from a political background that did not know contest before.

“You know the APC is an amalgamation of a number of political parties that came together and merged their identities but the APC as currently constituted cannot escape an elective mode of primaries.

“There is no zoning, on what basis are you going to say it is automatic? There is no allocation as they do in the Peoples Democratic Party, there is nothing like that so, on what basis?”

He implored politicians not to be scared of a political contest because it helps to strengthen democracy arguing that should he lose in a fair contest, he would support his party to win the elections.

In response, the South-East Zonal Publicity Secretary of the party who belongs to Buhari’s camp, said neither the general nor his supporters were afraid of a contest.

He, however, said the long term interest of the party was of utmost importance because there was little or no time left for the party to deal with the rancour which was likely to follow.

Okechukwu said “It is not a question of being afraid of a contest. Why we are asking for an automatic ticket for Buhari is on many grounds. We have seen that the connection between him, the middle class and the masses of this country is unparalleled.

“He has a bond with the masses of this country and the middle class and that kind of bond generated 12 million votes in 2011 in a micro CPC, a small CPC, now we have a broader political party.

“We need to compliment and supplement that 12 million votes instead of running the risk of the rancour, the bitterness of direct or indirect primaries. We have to avoid that rancour.”

Kenyan music act, Wangechi has been involved in a car accident that left one of her friends dead.

It was reported that the accident took place on Saturday, September 14, 2014, with Wangechi in the car alongside two of her close friends, identified as Tiona and Tewa. 

The kenyan rapper, Wangechi and her friends were on their way to an undisclosed location when the accident occurred, reportedly because of a burst tyre, leaving the car mangled. All passengers were rushed to Nairobi hospital, where one of the rapper’s friends Tiona passed away. According to reports, Tiona was confirmed dead after sustaining severe injuries, and Wangechi’s manager Kevin Provoke took to his twitter page to announce the rapper is in a stable condition.

Bomb blast In Kaduna, 15 Killed This Afternoon

It was learnt that the explosion that rock Kaduna this afternoon was from a bomb concealed in a red Volkswagen golf car. The bomb went off this afternoon July 23rd along Alkali road which leads to the popular Murtala Square in Central Kaduna killing at least 15 people.

An observer who speak to the media said, the bomb went off as a prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, drove past the road. They believe the bomb was targeted at his convoy but according to witnesses, the cleric escaped unhurt while passersby were killed.

The cleric is said to be an outspoken critic of Boko Haram and was on his way to the Murtala Square when the bomb went off.

Abuja Bomber Shot to Death By Police

The Coordinator, National Information Centre, Mr Mike Omeri, said  that soldiers killed one of the suspected bombers of EMAB Plaza in Abuja and arrested another. He said the attackers came on a power bike and planted an Improvised Explosive Device  by the entrance of the shopping mall.

He also confirmed the death of 21 persons and 17 others injured in the blast which also damaged several vehicles. NAN gathered that the suspects, who attempted to flee the scene of the incident, were shot and arrested by personnel of the Guards Brigade on patrol duty in the area.

One of them later died from wounds sustained from gunshots while a bag containing IEDs was also recovered from the suspects.

NURTW adopts new measures to check insecurity

 The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) is to provide walkie-talkies for members of the union as part of new measures to check insecurity at motor parks in Lagos State. The Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the union, Mr Tajudeen Agbede, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday that the measure was part of the union’s initiative to ensure security at parks. Agbede said that the measure became necessary because of the epileptic services of most of the telecommunications providers. “We are making frantic effort to tackle insecurity in all our motor parks, especially with the attacks at motor parks. “All arrangements have been completed to procure walkie-talkies to all members for communication and the direct contact with the branch chairmen.
 “Communication is a very powerful weapon and we want to promote this among us to enhance effective sharing of information on matters regarding security at parks.’’ According to him, the union will provide contacts of members to be reached whenever any suspicious movement or questionable object is discovered at any park. Agbede told NAN that such contacts would provide opportunity for members to contact themselves from unit level to top officials of the union. The NURTW boss said that the union was also working hard to install Close Circuit Television Cameras in all the parks, adding that the union had commenced the use of metal detectors to check insecurity. Governor Aliyu - Boko Haram activities un-Islamic

Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State on Monday in Kaduna condemned the activities of members of the Boko Haram terrorist group, saying that it was un-Islamic.
Mr. Aliyu, who is the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, said this at the international conference on Security and Development Challenges of Pastoralists in West and Central Africa
According to Aliyu, Boko Haram is un-Islamic and must be condemned, adding that the right Jihad in this 21st century is the one that improves the standard of living rather than seek to destroy lives.
“Boko Haram is un-islamic. Islam is about moderation and not extremism. Jihad is about how to make peace and life better, not how to kill people.’’

MSS condemns Kano health school bombing

The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria on Tuesday condemned Monday’s college bombing in Kano that killed eight students of the School of Hygiene.
Its President, Malam Yusuf Arrigasiyyu, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano that the attack on the school was “satanic and devilish”.
He urged the Federal and Kano state governments to set up investigative panel to fish out and prosecute all those behind the blast.
He also urged the Federal Government to beef up security across the state and other parts of the country, especially in the North-East to curtail the activities of the insurgents.
Arrigasiyyu said that members of the Boko Haram sect were not Muslims and did not represent Muslims.

Oracle Corp is likely to buy Micros Systems in a $5 billion deal, expected to be announced as early as Monday morning, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person familiar with the matter.
The takeover would value Micros at more than $67 a share, the newspaper said.
Micros Systems makes point-of-sale hardware and software for restaurants and hotels. Oracle has been rolling out its own cloud-based products and acquiring smaller cloud companies such as marketing software maker Responsys Inc.



The deal, if confirmed, would be Oracle's largest acquisition since it bought Sun Microsystems for $5.6 billion in 2009.
Bloomberg reported last week that the companies were in exclusive talks.
Oracle and Micros Systems could not be immediately reached for comment outside regular U.S. business hours.
Last week, Oracle posted fiscal fourth-quarter results that disappointed investors looking for more progress against rivals selling web-based services, sending its shares lower.
Reflecting expectations of a pickup in its software business and progress in cloud computing, shares of Oracle had gained 10 percent over the past three months, double the S&P 500's increase.
But Thursday's results cast doubt onto Oracle's execution in an industry facing increasingly tight competition.
"It's a bit of a jaw-dropper, in terms of Oracle missing results across the board in its historically strong fiscal year-end quarter," said FBR analyst Dan Ives. "It's like Spain getting knocked out of the World Cup in its first week."
Smaller, aggressive companies like Salesforce.com Inc and Workday Inc have been offering competitive software and Internet-based products at prices that often undercut Oracle.
Oracle's meager quarterly results underscore soft spending across the enterprise technology industry. Spending could become even more restrained as companies around the world move away from operating their own IT departments in favor of cloud services that cost less, said Summit Research analyst Richard Williams.

A 95th minute equaliser from Silvestre Varela saw Portugal salvage a 2-2 draw with USA and deny Jurgen Klinsmann's men immediate qualification to the last-16.

Pres. Jonathan appoints Bode George’s wife, Roli, as new NDLEA boss

President Jonathan has appointed Mrs. Roli Bode-George as the new Director-General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The appointment was announced this evening by Presidential Spokesperson, Reuben Abati.

Mrs Bode-George takes over from Mr Olufemi Ajayi, who is now the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF). The appointment is with immediate effect.

Bode George was arrested and jailed for fraud and abuse of office when he served as chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority, but his conviction was later upturned by the Supreme Court.

Liechtenstein With $227million Abacha loot

Court Stops Diezani Probe By House

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday gave an order   restraining the House of Representatives from going ahead with the probe of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, over allegation that she spent N10bn on a chartered aircraft.

The order   is to subsist till July 3 when the court will hear the substantive suit which was filed by Alison-Madueke, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources   and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed gave the order ahead of the plan by the House Committee on Public Accounts to carry out the probe on June 25, 26 and 27, 2014.

The order followed an application by the counsel for the plaintiffs in the suit, Mr. Etigwe Uwa (SAN).

13 Burnt To Dead In Sokoto Mishap

No fewer than 13 persons, including women and children, were burnt to ashes in a Thursday night road crash at Tudun-Dukiya village near Dogon Karfe, about 10 kms to Illela town in Sokoto state.

It involved a Peaugeot J-5 bus travelling from Jos  to Illela and a Toyota Starlet car travelling from Illela to Sokoto.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC) in Sokoto state, Dr Umar Gummi, confirmed the report to NAN in Sokoto on Friday.
