Addressing a joint news conference in Abuja, the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu says two persons, who had primary contact with the late Patrick Sawyerr, who died of Ebola virus in Lagos, had been quarantined while 69 others were under close surveillance. “You will recall that at my last briefing last week Friday, I informed you that a victim, as at that time, we said it was a Liberian,  but now, we also know that he is actually enjoyed dual citizenship of both Liberia and America. He died slightly less than four days after arrival in Nigeria. He was confirmed, before he died, to be suffering from Ebola Virus Disease (EVD)  and we are working with all stakeholders to see how we will track all those we considered primary contacts because contacts are in degrees.

“We are tracking them with a view to deciding those who will be quarantined,” Professor Chukwu said.
The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, who was also at the news conference, said the Federal Government was doing all it could to ensure that no other case of Ebola was recorded.
“We started the public awareness campaign even before the unfortunate victim came into our country. If you listen to radio and Nigerian television stations, you will hear the jingles about Ebola Virus Disease and the general care that Nigerians must observe in order not to contract the disease,” he said.
Specimens of persons, who had contact with the Liberian that died as a result of the virus, had been sent to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) to detect possible EVD.
The Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Professor Akin Osibogun, said that several blood specimens have been worked on but there are no positive results yet.
